Looking for Mother daughter homes or multi-generational homes?
Mother Daughter homes, also called multi-generational homes are becoming the new trend. With so many dual-working couples and the high cost of child care, many families are having mom and dad help out with babysitting. It makes it so much easier to have everyone living under one roof instead of having to drive young children to grandma and grandpas house every day.
Combining two generations of families is a tremendous help with savings on utility bills and house/yard maintenance.
Business Week article describe all about this latest trend of mother daughter / multi-generational homes.
Please let me know you specific needs:
- Does mom need a separate kitchen, living room and entrance or is just an extra bedroom and bath enough?
- Does mom need all of her rooms on a 1st floor?
- Would a finished walk-out basement work?
- If the house was large enough, would you consider re-configuring some rooms for a mother section?
Your current house might work as a mother-daughter home with some modifications. If zoning allows, you may be able to add an addition on to the home to include a bedroom, kitchen area, bath and living room. A less expensive alternative is to turn the garage into an apartment. If you have a living room next to a den, you might be able use this space to create a space for mom. If you have a walk-out basement, this could be also a consideration for making an in-law suite.
