10 Alexander Drive, Middletown, NJ 07748
Description
Supplements: The home has 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths; two of which have recently been updated and a beautiful slate patio off the family room. Lastly a full basement that can be finished for a workshop or craft area, storage and perfect for a children's play room, teen space or maybe work out room. This was Mr. Alexander's home built in the early 20th century; with only 4 rooms, 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs. Before the sycamore trees along the front grew up, the Alexanders probably had a distant view across Hubbard Ave., over the marsh, and out to the Navesink. From the back door they had acres and acres of apple trees. Along Alexander Drive, the family planted a border of an azalea cultivar developed by Mr. Alexander. Descendants of this bright cherry red deciduous azalea still dot the property and several have been restored to their original position along the Drive. After he subdivided the orchard each property owner who purchased, Mr. Alexander gave 2 of these azaleas which can still be seen today. Of those who occupied the house after the Alexander's was an artist, Helen M. Toulme. Somewhere around the 80's or 90's the previous owners added 4 rooms, a solarium to the rear of the original house and converted the side porch to an office. Over 15 years touches of evergreen screen were added around the perimeter of the property, a new roof, front porch and expanded back patio with an awning, hardwood floors in Family Room with a Pella sliding door, 2 skylights in the ceiling, updated kitchen with all new appliances, 2 updated bathrooms, new central a/c, furnace, water heater, basement waterproofing system, and roof gutter system. We managed to find space among the conifers surrounding the house for 5 dogwood and 3 red-bud trees and a "Bridge to Nowhere" spanning a river of grass in the back yard. The plantings make house feel very private but our friendly neighbors and proximity to Red Bank offer numerous outlets for social and community involvement. 10 Alexander has been a wonderful place to live for what was supposed to be a brief transition from a 13 room Victorian. We will miss it dearly as we head south in retirement. Alexander Drive neighborhood resides along Shadow Lake, around the corner to the Navesink River and just over the bridges to Red Bank offering access to plenty of outdoor activities in the area all year around, strong community relations, excellent schools, the arts, shopping, restaurants and quick access to all mass transit; 10 minutes to train, GSP or 15 minutes to NYC ferries. An added bonus, the full nature surroundings; year around foliage and the beautiful wildlife. Imagine enjoying a cup of coffee and experience the orchestra of local birds while enjoying the beautiful blossoms. And there is even a dog house for a family pet. All room sizes and square footage are approximate. Red Bank Mailing address 07701.
